Early Work: Ceramics

Alan and frieze.

Alan studied pottery at Camberwell School of Art under Dick Kendal and Nora Bradon in 1949, followed by a year at Farnham under Henry Hammond and Paul Barron.

In 1951 he set up the Hawkley Pottery near Stroud in Gloucestershire with his wife painter Sheila Denning and taught pottery at Stroud School of Art.

In the early 1960’s he made ceramic tiled tables to sell at Heals.
